Welcome to Sound Library Pro:
This CD-ROM contains over 1200 sounds in four different file formats:
AIFF, Resource, WAV, and SoundEdit.
The 1200 sounds can be accessed through the convenient interface provided.
These sounds can be used in presentations and applications, as system sounds, or for
wherever else sounds are needed. The system sound type on the Macintosh is
in the RESOURCE folder and can also be used with HyperCard stacks.
The Windows sound file type is in the WAV directory, which can be used for
Windows system sounds. The sounds are also saved in AIFF format
and SoundEdit, which are flexible and standard formats that can be used
in a variety of applications that accept sound as input.
QuickStart:
Insert the CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.
Macintosh:
If you do not have QuickTime 2.0 installed, you need to install
the QuickTime 2.0 provided on this CD-ROM by dragging the
QuickTime file to your system folder and restarting.
Double click on the "Sound Library Pro" icon. Power Macintosh
users need the QuickTime Power Plug also.
Windows:
From the Windows Program manager's menu choose run and TYPE:
"[drive]:INSTALL" (where drive is the letter of your CD-ROM
drive) and press enter.
How to use the software:
Sound Library Pro
The Table of Contents provides a menu of topics to select.
Most functions of Sound Library Pro are also accessible through the menu
bar located at the top of the screen.
The sounds play by single clicking the text name of the sound you wish to hear.
The selected sound's name is then displayed in the "Now Playing" box.
The list of sounds in the chosen category can be paged through by
clicking the up or down arrow button.
The categories can be paged through by single clicking the
right and left arrows on the buttons panel or by selecting categories
from the menu bar.
Copying Sounds
Make certain that the desired sound is displayed in the
"Now Playing" box. Click on the "Copy" button or choose "Copy" from the "Edit"
menu. For instruction on how to paste the sound for use as a system
beep(mac), select "Copying instructions" option from the "help" menu.
For PCs, the sound automatically is copied to drive and directory of
your choice (C:\WINDOWS by default).
Installing the sounds without using the interface software:
Macintosh:
Open the "Resource" folder and open the category and sub-category folders
until you find a sound file that you want to install.
Copy the file into your System folder to install the sound.
Open the "Sound" Control Panel to choose the sound and play it.
Also refer to the "help" menu option "Copying instructions."
Warning: Sounds take up space in your system and can slow performance.
Install sounds as needed and remove unneeded sounds. Also larger sound
files take up more room.
Windows:
Open the "WAV" directory and category and sub-category directories until
you find a sound file that you want to install.
Copy the sound into your Windows directory.
Open the windows "Control Panels" and access the sounds.
The text in "Sound Library Pro" is available in files that can be accessed by your
word processor!
See the file "FileList.txt"
Macintosh: open the "dir_txt" folder.
Windows: open the "dos_txt" directory
The text contains the listing of sounds by categories. There is also a
listing of the sounds with their full path name, so that you can easily
find the sounds outside of the given interface.
Issues
Equipment/software needed or recommended:
Macintosh:
- 256 (8 bit) color or better color display
- QuickTime 1.6 (on CD-ROM) installed
- Mac II, LC or better
- System 6.0.7 or higher
- 2 megabytes free RAM required, 4 preferred
- 13" monitor display
PC/Windows:
- DOS 5.0
- Windows 3.1
- 386 or better PC
- Sound Board and speakers
- 256 (8 bit) or less
- 2 megabytes free RAM required, 4 preferred
QuickTime 1.6/1.1 is included.
8 bit display (256 colors):
All the images are in an 8 bit format in the "Sound Library Pro" software.
Trouble Shooting:
Volume control does not operate.
Some sound cards provide volume control on the card and do not allow for
the application to control the volume. If the volume control does not
operate, adjust the volume manually on the sound card.
The movies don't play.
Make sure that you have the latest version of QuickTime installed
Macintosh 1.6, Windows 1.1. They are both provided on the CD-ROM.
The sounds don't play.
Macintosh: Make sure that your sound control panel is not off.
Windows: You need a sound board.
Are the speakers/headphones connected and on?
The software doesn't fit on my screen.
You need at least a 13" display (640x480) to view the entire
picture.
White and black blotches on my screen.
The images and sounds used in this software require large quantities of
RAM at time. If the program is unable to load all of the images
needed into RAM for one screen, it may "blank" the images from the
screen or cause sounds to be cut short of their full play.
The problem may be resolved by quitting any other applications that may
be running or by adding more RAM to your machine.
Strange characters appear on my screen.
On the PC, if your video driver is not set to 8bits, Director Player for Windows
will run into compatability problems. Be sure to set your video driver to
8 bits (640x480x256).
We hope you enjoy "Sound Library Pro" in you home, school, or office use.
